Technology Transforms AVX Passive Components

Passive components do not often generate the excitement of active devices at technical conferences. Nevertheless, the promise of the new multilayer organic (MLO™) passive circuit technology from AVX Corp. is very real, and is sure to have a significant impact on a wide range of RF/microwave circuits and designs through 20 GHz. The MLO technology has been applied to a number of different “building-block” passive components—including capacitors, inductors, crossovers, and diplexers—with impressive electrical ratings for their miniature sizes.

Apparatus For Charging Thin-film Capacitors

It is possible to prevent over current from flowing at the time of initially charging thin-film capacitors with an inexpensive configuration. There are provided a direct current power supply DC supplying direct current to plural thin-film capacitors, resistors connected in series to the respective thin-film capacitors for limiting the current value of the direct current to be supplied from the direct current power supply DC to the thin-film capacitors, and series-parallel system changeover switches SW connected in series to the respective thin-film capacitors and having one contacts establishing, when selected, a series connection short-circuiting both ends of each thin-film capacitor and other contacts establishing, when selected, parallel connections supplying direct current through the resistors to the thin-film capacitors.

AVX introduces smallest thin film tight tolerance RF capacitor

AVX has developed the smallest RF thin film tight tolerance capacitor on the market. The most recent addition to its highly accurate and well-established Accu-P® RF capacitor series, AVX’s new capacitor is a miniscule 01005 standard size chip that features the low capacitance values (0.05pF to 2.4pF) and ultra-tight capacitance tolerances (±0.01pF) that the series is known for, in addition to low ESR and high Q at VHF, UHF, and microwave frequencies.
